15 Best Bike Lights 2021: Front And Rear

Nobody likes to cycle in the dark and if you want to brighten things up a little, you’ll want one of the best bike lights.

There’s a few things you need to consider when making your choice, however, and I’ll you what’s most important – after you’ll see my top picks for both front and rear lights.

I’m sure you’ll see a product you want to own by the time you’re done reading.

How To Choose A Bike Light

There’s a few things you need to think about when making your decision and the most important is:

  • Which type of biking you are doing (mountain biking or road biking/commuting)
  • How much lighting you get (measured in lumens)
  • Mounting options
  • Battery type

First thing you need to consider is the type of cycling you’ll be doing. If you’re looking to commute or enjoy road biking, this video will help you with your selection:

And if you’re trail rider or mountain biker, you should watch this video:

Pretty simple, right?

After you have this figured out you need to look at the amount of lighting you’ll get. Bike lights are measured in lumens and the more lumens you get, the more distance and brightness you receive.

Next, you should determine if you want a front light or back light. Front lights tend to be brighter than rear lights and should be considered by anyone who plans on cycling at night regularly.

Rear lights are definitely a must if you’re going to be biking on a road with traffic. This way cars will easily be able to see you. You can always have a front and rear light too!

Lastly, you need to look at the battery type and life. Some products run on disposable batteries while others are powered by a rechargeable lithium ion battery. The second option is the better option but tends to cost a little extra.

Now that you know exactly what to look fro when making your purchase let’s take a look at my top picks for front lights – my top picks for rear lights is right after.

Best Front Lights

NiteRider Lumina Micro 750

Company: NiteRider

Price: $$$

Rating: 4.9/5

The NiteRider Lumina Micro 750 is one of my favorite lights on the market for many reasons. First off, you get 750 lumens and this means you get a lot of brightness. You can be cycling in the pitch black and feel confident in the amount of light you’ll get.

Another aspect that I know you’re going to enjoy is you get multiple options in terms of lighting. Each different level has its own battery life too and you get anywhere from 90 minutes of run time of the highest setting and 10 hours on the lowest. That should be enough for basically everyone!

Some other top features include:

  • Very lightweight and you can easily put this light on your helmet (it only weighs around 4.6 ounces).
  • You get a mount for your handlebars and they are quick release .This means you can snap them on and off very easily.
  • Runs on a rechargeable lithium ion battery is very convenient and you won’t have to constantly be buying new batteries.
  • Low light indicator shows you exactly when you have recharge your battery.
  • Lock mode ensures this product won’t turn on when in storage and drain your battery before you get to use.

The Lumina Micro 750 is reasonable priced too and this light won’t break the bank to purchase. You know what the cost even better? You get a lifetime warranty to go with it. That’s a really great deal and makes this product one of the best values on the market.

Light And Motion Seca 2500 Enduro

Company: Light And Motion

Price: $$$$$

Rating: 5/5

The Light and Motion Seca 2500 Enduro is the best front light on this list and is a product that’s specifically made for mountain biking and trail riding. As a matter of fact, this product can be found on the handlebars and helmets of high performing Enduro bikers – people involved in 24 hour races would turn to this type of product.

Like many pieces of equipment on this list, the Seca comes with various settings batter run times. What separates this light from other is you get 6 options in terms of light – on the highest setting you get 2.5 hours of brightness and on the lowest you get 20 hours.

If that’s not enough you’ll like that this product comes with:

  • Smooth beam pattern means you get the clearest and most in depth lighting possible. You’ll be able to easily see everything in front of you.
  • Race mode lets you switch between high and low with just a single touch. This is good when you’re trying to conserve battery for longer races.
  • Low battery warning let’s you know exactly how much juice you have left.
  • You get 3 different mounts with this product – handlebar, helmet and go pro.
  • Runs of a lithium ion rechargeable battery so you won’t have to replace it time and time again.
  • Charges relatively quickly and you can get a full batter in about 5 hours.

The Seca 2500 is by far the most expensive light on this list and no other product even comes close in terms of cost. If you’re a casual cyclist you won’t need to spend all the money it would take to purchase this light, though. It’s really only reserved for very serious bikers.

Cygolite Dash Pro 600

Company: Cygolite

Price: $$$

Rating: 4.8/5

Here we have another well made and high quality front bike light and the Cygolite Dash Pro 600 can work for basically everyone. If you decide on this light you get 600 lumens of light.

This amount of brightness is very wide and lights up the path/road ahead of you – you’ll feel like you can see everything ahead of you with the Dash Pro.

Some other top aspects include:

  • 8 different lighting modes makes this product one of the most versatile on the market. On the highest setting you get 1 hour of battery and on the lowest setting you get a whopping 70 hours!
  • Rechargeable lithium ion battery makes life a lot easier and you won’t have to constantly go to the store to buy new disposable batteries.
  • DayLighting mode makes sure you’re visible when it’s blinding out.
  • Side light ports makes you even more visible in the dark. Every car will be able to see you because of this.
  • Low battery indicator lets you know when it’s time for a charge so you don’t run out half way through your ride.
  • Water resistant and this product will easily be able to survive the rain and other inclement weather.

The Cygolite Dash Pro is pretty affordable too and will fit into almost everyone’s budget. You know what else is cool? This light gets a ton of positive reviews too. If you want to see what other customers are saying about this product, click below:

Knog Pop i

Company: Knog

Price: $

Rating: 4.6/5

If you’re really on a tight budget or just don’t want to spend more than $20 on your bike light, the Knog Pop i is a product that you should consider. Do I think it’s on the same level as the previous lights on this list? No, I don’t.

But not everyone needs top of the line brightness. Some people are a little more causal and don’t expect to be out there in the pitch black. Some people just need something just in case they get caught away from home when the sun goes down.

If that’s you, you’ll like the top features, like:

  • 35 lumens is a fraction of the brightness you’ll get with the more quality lights on this list but still works in the right situations.
  • Side illumination makes sure you’re visible from all angles and cars will easily be able to see you.
  • 5 different light modes and you get 2.5 hours of power on the highest setting and 100 hours on the lowest.
  • Longer hold button prevents this light from turning on in your bag and wasting batteries.
  • Water resistant and it should hold up in basically all weather conditions.
  • Runs on a single AA battery so it shouldn’t cost too much to run over a long period of time.

Another aspect that’s pretty cool is you get 11 different colors to choose from. This way you’ll get the exact look you want and be able to match it to your bike perfectly.

NiteRider Lumina 1100

Company: NiteRider

Price: $$$

Rating: 4.9/5

The NiteRider Lumina 1100 is a light that serious bikers can purchase and be very satisfied with. Anyone that plans on cycling a lot in the dark, should consider this product – it’ll do everything you need it to and more.

One reason I say this is because it come with 1100 lumens of lighting. This is a lot of light and you’ll feel very safe with the Lumina on your handlebars. You’ll be able to see everything ahead of you and cars will easily be able to see you.

Some other top benefits include:

  • Beam pattern ensures you get light both long and wide. This ensures you get the best range possible.
  • 7 different lights and you get 2 daytime settings and 5 nighttime settings. 90 minutes of power on the highest setting and 10 hours on the lowest.
  • Made from durable aluminum and fiberglass. This light is made to survive a beating and the elements.
  • Intellicharge technology means you get to recharge the lithium ion battery twice as fast as normal.
  • Lock mode makes sure this product doesn’t turn on and drain the battery before you get to use it.

Because this is one of the higher end lights on this list, it’s going to cost a little extra to purchase. It’s not the most expensive on this list but certainly not the cheapest either. You do get a lifetime warranty, though, so the price is much more reasonable when you consider that.

Planet Bike Blaze 140 SI

Company: Planet Bike

Price: $$

Rating: 4.7/5

The Palnet Bike Blaze 140 Sl isn’t my favorite product on this list but can work for some people – mainly people that are less serious about cycling and their safety doesn’t depend on the most lighting possible.

One reason I say this is because it runs on AA batteries. On the plus side you can always just bring along back up batteries and you’ll get light as long as yo need. On the downside constantly buying batteries can add up and cost a lot over time.

If you’re ok with that, you’ll like that this light comes with:

  • 64 hours on the lowest setting and 5 hours on the highest setting.
  • You get side lights and this gives you 275 degrees of visibility. Cars will easily be able to see you because of this.
  • Quickcam bracket mount means you can quickly adjust where you put this light.
  • Water resistant ensures this light will be able to weather any storm. It won’t break when you need it the most.
  • 140 lumens isn’t a ton of brightness but it’s enough if you’re biking in safer, less traffic areas.

One thing that’s good is the price. The Planet Bike Blaze is one of the cheaper on this list. As long as you temper your expectations and you should be pretty satisfied with what you get.

Light And Motion Urban 700

Company: Light And Motion

Price: $$$

Rating: 4.8/5

With a name like Urban, you know exactly where this Light and Motion product thrives – in city environments and for commutes. If you’re someone that likes to bike to work or for pleasure, the Light and Motion Urban 700 is right up your alley.

Because this bike is made more for that and not enduro or mountain biking, this light doesn’t have the longest run time and battery life. Most commutes to work are fairly short and you won’t need 100 hours of light. But this product still gives you 1.5 hours to 12 hours of run time, which is more than enough for commuting.

Some other aspects that you’ll like includes:

  • Amber side lights ensure drivers can see you and you won’t have to worry about getting clipped.
  • Rechargeable battery means you won’t have to constantly go out and buy other batteries.
  • Mounting bracket is included and you can easily put this product on your handlebars.
  • 6 different modes so you get the exact lighting you need, depending on your situation.
  • 700 lumens gives you a good amount of brightness and you’ll be able to see everything in front of you.

This product is about right where you’d expect it to be in terms of price too. It might be a hair more expensive than some of the other lights on this list but it’s nothing too crazy.

NiteRider Swift 450

Company: NiteRider

Price: $$

Rating: 4.7/5

The Last product you saw was made specifically for commuting and urban environments. The NiteRider Swift 450 works well in those situations but can be used in others too. If you want to go trail riding or something like that you’ll be able to do that.

One reason I saw this is the Swift 450 is made from highly durable materials and can handle a spill (it’s made with reinforced fiberglass). This product can handle the rigors of hectic cycling.

Some other features include:

  • 450 lumens which is a good amount of light. You’ll be able to see whatever you need to.
  • Rechargeable battery and this saves you some cash over the lifetime of the product. You won’t have to constantly have to purchase batteries.
  • 4 different light modes and 1 day mode gives you a good amount of versatility.
  • You get 9 hours of lighting on the lowest setting and you get 90 minutes on the highest.
  • Battery indicator is designed to look like the fuel gauge in your car. You’ll know exactly how much juice you have left because of this.
  • Collimator Lens gives you the clearest field of vision possible.

This product is ultra affordable too and anyone, regardless of budget will be able to afford this light. It gets even better when you factor in the lifetime warranty. Combine the price and that guarantee and you get one of the best values on this list.

Best Rear Bikes

CygoLite Hotrod 50 Lm

Company: CygoLite

Price: $$

Rating: 4.8/5

The Cygolite Hotrod 50 Lm is a rear light that everyone is going to love and ensures you are safe while cycling in the dark – cars will easily be able to see you in front of them, no matter what time it is. This device actually has a night and day mode for added safety.

Another reason you’re going to like this light is you get 6 different brightness settings and each has their own battery time. On the highest setting you get 90 minutes of light and on the lowest you get an amazing 100 hours of run time!

Some other features that you’ll like includes:

  • Cluster mounted LED means you get a wide and deep light stream. You’ll really light up even if it’s quite dark out.
  • 50 lumens is pretty bright and also makes sure you’ll be seen.
  • Easily goes on your seat post and won’t cause you any problems.
  • Rechargeable battery saves you some stress and you won’t have to spend a small fortune on disposable batteries.
  • Low battery indicator shows you exactly how much juice you have left.
  • Water resistant and it’ll be able to stand up to any weather.

The price on this product isn’t bad either and everyone will be able to afford it. It also has a bunch of reviews and if you’d like to see what other customers are saying, click below:

NiteRider Solas 150

Company: NiteRider

Price: $$

Rating: 4.8/5

The NiteRider Solas is another product that’ll work for a lot of different people and this is one of the brighter rear lights on this list – it provides a 150 lumens worth of light, which is three times the amount of the last product you saw.

This level of brightness is perfect for any person that expects to ride in the dark a lot and especially if you do so where cars are active. Any driver will easily be able to see you in front of them with this lighting attached to your rear.

Some other aspects that make this product worth it includes:

  • 4 different light modes and you get a group mode so you’re not blinding your fellow bikers.
  • Easily goes on your seat post and it won’t cause you any stress to do so.
  • On the highest setting you get 7 hours of light and 33 hours of light on the lowest.
  • Lithium ion batteries are rechargeable and this makes life much simpler.
  • Low light indicator shows you when it’s time to charge your battery so you’re not left out in the dark without a source of light.

This product is affordable like most rear lights but it’s probably on the higher end in terms of price – nothing crazy but it’s one of the more costly options. It does come with a lifetime warranty so that should erase any fears if you have any.

Cygolite Dice Tl 50

Company: Cygolite

Price: $

Rating: 4.7/5

The Cygolite Dice TL 50 proves that big results (or light) can come from small packages. This product is only an inch wide yet produces enough brightness that every car behind you will easily be able to see you.

One reason this device scores so well in the safety department is the SteadyPulse. This light stream allows drivers to gauge how far you are away from them and pulses to keep them alert to exactly where you are. They will never lose focus of you and forget you’re in front of them because of this.

Some other top benefits include:

  • 8 different modes of lighting so you get the exact brightness you need for whatever you’re doing.
  • Low battery indicator ensures you have light when you go out for your bike rides.
  • Very lightweight and only weighs 30 grams.
  • Water resistant and it can stand up to storms and all the elements.
  • An amazing 65 hours of light on the lowest setting and 1.5 hours on the lowest.
  • Group mode so you don’t blind your friends when you’re cycling with them.

The best part about this light is how cheap it is. No matter your budget you’ll be able to afford this product. It’s an excellent value and basically all bikers will be satisfied with what it can do for them.

Planet Bike Superflash

Company: Planet Bike

Price: $

Rating: 4.8/5

The Planet Bike Superflash is another simple yet effective bike light. One thing I don’t like about this device is that it runs on AAA batteries and isn’t rechargeable.

It may save you a few bucks up front but over time it’s going to cost you a lot of money. Thank about it – if you go through 50 AAA batteries in a single year that’s going to cost you an extra $20 to $40 bucks, depending on which brand you buy from.

The only benefit of having AAA batteries is you can bring along spare batteries. If you run out you can just pop in extras.

If that’s what you’re looking for you’ll like the top features which include:

  • One of the most efficient products on the market and you get up to 50 hours of light on high and 100 hours on low.
  • Very compact and lightweight. It’ll be able to fit anywhere on your seat post easily.
  • Different light modes including steady and flashing. You can put on either one depending on when you’re biking.
  • Comes with a bike mount and you can get this product on your bike with little effort.

I think this light is probably best for people that are a little more causal about biking and really don’t plan on cycling at night too often. If you’re someone that plans on doing that a lot you’ll want one of the more high quality products on this list.

Blackburn Click USB

Company: Blackburn

Price: $

Rating: 4.7/5

The Blackburn Click USB is another product I wouldn’t recommend for anyone that is constantly cycling at night. So if you’re a commuter and plan on biking home in the dark or that’s just your favorite time to get your workout in, I would look elsewhere.

This light is designed more for people that will be out during the daytime and need a rear light for the rare cases they’re out when the sun goes down.

Some other aspects that you’re going to like includes:

  • Really good side light and this means cars will see you from the side as well as the back.
  • Rechargeable battery is convenient and it’ll save you some cash going froward.
  • Universal mount means it’ll fit on to basically all bikes and seat posts.
  • Completely waterproof and you’ll be able to take this light out into any weather imaginable.
  • Multiple colors so you get the exact look that you want.

What’s really great here is this light is very, very inexpensive. If you’re on a budget or just don’t feel like spending a ton on your light, this one is going to work well for you. Just don’t expect it to give you the same performance as the more expensive lights on this list.

Cygolite Hotshot Pro 150

Company: Cygolite

Price: $$

Rating: 4.9/5

The last few products were made more for people that are recreational and don’t plan on doing a ton of riding at night. That’s not the case with the Cygolite Hotshot Pro 150 – this device can be used by very serious bikers.

One reason I say this is you get 150 lumens of lighting. This is a large amount for a rear light and ensures that all motorists behind you will easily be able to see you. You’ll feel extra safe with the Hotshot mounted to your seat post.

Some other top features include:

  • Multiple different light modes made for day and night. This way you can have the right mode for what ever situation you find yourself in.
  • You get steady light and flash tempo, this way you can get a driver’s attention anyway you choose.
  • Enhanced Cycling Optics makes this rear light as wide and long as possible.
  • Reachable battery saves you some effort in terms of having to buy new batteries.
  • Low battery indicator ensures you know exactly how much juice you have left.
  • Very water resistant and you’ll be able to ride around in any weather you want.

This product is right where you’d expect it to be priced too. Also, it has a ton of reviews on Amazon and if you want to check what all these different people are saying about this light, click below.

Knog Blinder Mini Chippy

Company: Knog

Price: $

Rating: 4.7/5

The Knog Mini Chippy is an appropriate name and this product really doesn’t give off that much light – about 11 lumens. That’s about 1/15th the amount of lighting you’ll get if you were to compare it to the product before this one.

Even with this little amount you’ll still be seen up to 547 yards away, which is more than any person would actually need. But someone really concerned with their safety may want a light with more lumens.

If you’re not overly concerned about it, you’ll like some of the top benefits which includes:

  • Waterproof construction means you can bike in any weather you want and still have this light work.
  • Easily attached to your seat post with out any problems and fits any post 22-33mm and up.
  • Max battery life of 10 hours on lowest setting and 1.5 hours on the highest. Plus the battery is rechargeable.
  • Beam angle of 120 degrees ensures you can be seen from all angles.

This is an affordable light just like all the rear light options. These products are less involved than front so it makes sense that they’re cheaper.
