There’s a few things you need to consider when making your purchase and I’ll show you what’s most important – after you’ll see my top picks for men, women and seniors.

I’m sure you’ll see a club that you love by the time you’re done.

How To Choose A Fairway Wood

Here’s a video that’ll help out in this department:

Pretty simple, right?

If you want to learn more about the buying process scroll down to the bottom of this post – there’s more information that’ll help you out there.

Keep in mind the most important thing to consider is the flex of the club (regular and stiff is for men, ladies flex is for women and senior flex is for seniors). I organized the products based on that.

Let’s get into my top picks now!

Fairway Woods For Men

Callaway Rogue Sub Zero

Company: Callway

Price: $$$$

Rating: 5/5

If you’ve golfed for a while you’ve come across Callaway before – maybe you’ve owned one of their drivers, played with one of their putters or even owned one of their golf rangefinders. I like Callaway a lot and seek out their products whenever possible. One of their top clubs, and one of the best fairway woods on earth, is their Rogue Sub Zero.

The most innovative piece of technology in this product is the Jailbreak Technology. What this does is stiffens the crown and sole which creates more ball speed and makes the sweet spot even larger. This ensures you get the best shots possible.

Some other top aspects include:

  • Hyper Speed Face Cup gives you the most distance possible and you’ll really be able to launch with this wood.
  • Center of gravity is low and to the front and this ensures lower spin for farther shots.
  • Triaxial Carbon Composite Crown puts the weight of crown on the perimeter and this improves forgiveness.
  • Callaway partnered with Boeing and made the Rogue Sub Zero the most aerodynamic as possible.

You also get several options in terms of shaft materials and each has their own pros and cons, which are:

As you can see there’s a lot to think about and consider!

In terms of price, this wood is one of the pricier you can get. If you’re just starting out you’ll probably want to get a more beginner friendly option. If you have some skill and looking to advance or looking for any edge possible, this product is well worth its price.

TaylorMade M4

Company: TaylorMade

Price: $$$

Rating: 4.8/5

The Taylormade M4 is on the same level as the one you just saw and this one can work for very skilled golfers. If you’re someone looking to add a new club to your arsenal to help lower your scores, this is one you should definitely consider.

One reason for this is you get many options in terms of flex. In fact, this is one of the few clubs where you can decide between regular, stiff AND extra stiff. If you’re in that top 5% in terms of swing speed you’ll really appreciate that last option.

That’s not all that makes this club worth purchasing, either. You also get:

  • Geocoustic technology makes this club very easy to play with and gets the ball in the air with less effort.
  • Externalized sound ribs enhance the overall feel of this wood.
  • Weight is distributed equally through out the M4 and this makes this product feel very balanced.
  • Very forgiving and even if you don’t hit it squarely you’ll get accurate shots.
  • Inverted Cone Technology increases speed and this really lets you crush it.
  • 5 Layer Carbon Crown lowers the center of gravity and this is why it’s so easy to launch the ball.
  • Different wood options with different lofts.

Because this is such a quality wood, it’s going to cost a little extra to purchase. If you value your time on the golf course you have to think about buying this club, though. You’ll really love the way you swing the M4, that’s for sure.

Tour Edge Hot Launch 2

Company: Tour Edge

Price: $$$

Rating: 4.8/5

The Tour Edge Hot Launch 2 is another fairway wood that’s high quality and one that I really like. You can get this wood in many different options too. You can get a Hot Launch 2 that’s a 3 wood, 5 wood, 7 wood and 11 wood. You also get an offset version (this ensures better accuracy) of each of those types.

So no matter what you’re looking for you’ll find it. You also get a few options in terms of stiffness too. If you’re an advanced golfer you can purchase this club with a stiff flex and get farther shots. If you’re more of a novice or golf recreationally, you can get the Hot Launch 2 with a regular flex.

If that’s not enough, you’ll like that this product comes with:

  • 450SS hyper steel construction and this improves the overall feel of this product. It also helps with performance.
  • Variable Face Thickness technology creates a spring like effect when the head meets the ball. When this happens you get more distance.
  • An optimized center of gravity because of the rear sole weighting ensures you get maximum forgiveness. Even if you don’t hit it perfectly you’ll still get good shots.
  • If you get the offset design you get slice reduction too.

This product is a little more cost effective than the one you just saw but it’s certainly not cheap. The last thing you want to do is cheap out and buy a poorly made club – that’ll just frustrate you when you’re on the golf course. That won’t happen with the Hot Launch 2, though.

TaylorMade M2

Company: Taylormade

Price: $$$$

Rating: 4.9/5

Taylormade is one of the most well known golf companies on earth and their line of M2 clubs are extremely high quality (you can find M2 irons and M2 drivers). Their M2 fairway is one of my favorite’s and is a product anyone would be lucky to own.

One thing I love with this club is how forgiving it is. When you get a forgiving club this means you get better accuracy. Even if you don’t hit it perfectly, your shot will still be on target.

Some other features that make the M2 worth it includes:

  • 6-layer carbon composite crown ensures you get a long and high launch. If you have any problems getting the ball into the air and lack distance, you’ll like this crown.
  • Geocoustic Technology is why this product is so forgiving and why you get so much accuracy.
  • Externalized sound ribs reduce head vibration and improves the overall feel of this wood.
  • Two-tiered sole design enhances the overall versatility and means you can play your ball from various different lies.
  • Inverted Cone Technology expands the sweet spot in the head and this is another reason why you’ll get the best shots possible.
  • Lightweight design lets you really whip this club through and get your furthest shot possible.

The M2 is one of the pricier woods on this list but it’s not overly expensive. I personally think it’s worth every penny of its price tag. There’s plenty of positive reviews too. If you want to see what other customers are saying about this product, click below.

XXIO X Fairway

Company: XXIO

Price: $$$$

Rating: 5/5

The XXIO X Fairway is another option that gives you a ton of choices in terms of type of woods. You can choose between a 3 wood or 5 wood and you get many choices in terms of flexes and loft angles. What ever you’ll need you’ll be able to find it.

One aspect that you’re going to really like with this product is how lightweight it is. What this does is ensures you get faster swings and you’ll be able to crush your shots because of this.

Some other top features include:

  • Lightweight crown and extremely strong rolled face really helps in the distance department and is good for anyone lacking there.
  • Smart Shaft Impact improves the overall forgiveness of this product and ensures you hit the ball more squarely.
  • High energy impact head gives you a boost in terms of ball speed and this is another reason you’ll get more distance with the XXIO X.
  • Comfortable grip makes sure this club feels ultra good in your hands.

If you want to play with the best you’re going to have to pay a little extra – that’s the case with this wood. In fact, it’s one of the more expensive on the market.

Do I think it’s worth it? I do if you plan on golfing a lot. If you just get out there a few times a year you can go for something a little cheaper.

Cobra King F6

Company: Cobra King

Price: $$$

Rating: 4.8/5

The Cobra King F6 is a wood that works for many different golfers and it’s one of the most versatile on this list. Honestly, I think any golfer can benefit from having this club in their golf bag but I think it’s best for intermediate golfers. If you love to play often but don’t have any dreams of going pro, the King F6 will work for you.

One unique feature that separates this product from others is you can adjust the center of gravity from the front or back. If you set it to the front you’ll get more of a line drive with a lot of roll and a back CG means you get more forgiveness and more height on your shots.

Some other benefits you’ll like includes:

  • Innovative speed channel improves the overall ball speed and really let’s you smack your shots.
  • My Fly Smartpad gives you even more versatility and allows you to make adjustments to the loft. This means you can fine tune your shots, depending on the situation you’re in.
  • Different weight options and you can select the one that works best with your swing.
  • Several flexes to choose from. If you have a very fast swing you’ll get a flex that works for you and if you have a regular swing speed you’ll be able to find a flex that works for you too.

Even though you get all these cool features, the Cobra King F6 is actually pretty affordable. If you’re looking to save a little without giving up much in the performance department, this is an excellent option for you.

Fairway Woods For Women

Taylormade Women’s M4

Company: Taylormade

Price: $$$$

Rating: 5/5

The Taylormade Women’s M4 is my top pick for lady golfers and this is a club that’ll work for the best of the best. This is the kind of club that you can confidently grab out of your bag and be sure you can crush your fairway shot.

One reason for this is the geocoustic technology of the M4. This technology helps in a few departments and really makes this club easy to play with. You’ll have no problem getting your shots into the air and launching them onto the green.

Some other top benefits include:

  • Externalized sound ribs limit the vibrations of the head and this improves the overall feel of the M4.
  • Perimeter weight distribution makes the sweet spot of this club as large as possible. This makes it easier than ever to hit the ball squarely.
  • Very forgiving ensures you’ll get good shots even if you don’t hit it perfectly.
  • Advanced Speed Pocket gives you a boost in terms of distance.
  • 5 layer carbon crown lowers the center of gravity and this is why it’s so easy to launch your shots.
  • Multiple different wood options and lofts so you get the perfect club for your game.

This is a high quality product and you’ll always have to pay extra for that. The Women’s M4 is more than worth its investment if you plan on golfing a lot, however. You’ll have a hard time finding a fairway wood that performs better out on the golf course.

Callaway Women’s XR 16

Company: Callaway

Price: $$$

Rating: 4.8/5

Callaway is a brand you can always trust and when you purchase from them you you know you’re getting top of the line equipment – this definitely applies to their Women’s XR 16. Like the club you just saw, this one will impress even very skilled golfers.

One aspect that makes the XR 16 worth a consideration is its aerodynamic design. Callaway invests millions into the design of their clubs and it really shows here. Because you get such an aerodynamic shape you get less resistance when you swing – less resistance equals more speed and more speed equals better shots.

If that’s not enough, you’ll appreciate that this club comes with:

  • Body of this club is made with high strength steel and this makes this wood very durable and long lasting.
  • Center of gravity is low on the club and this makes it easier to launch your shots.
  • Face is designed to be as forgiving as possible and this ensures you get good shots even if you don’t hit them perfectly.
  • Large sweet spot on the face is another reason you’ll get so many accurate shots with this wood.
  • Multiple lofts to choose from and you’ll be able to get the perfect one for your game.

The XR 16 isn’t cheap but I wouldn’t consider it overly expensive either. For what you’re getting and the performance it gives, I actually think it’s priced perfectly.

The reviews are perfect too and if you want to see why other customers are fawning over this product, click below:

Callaway Women’s Big Bertha V Series

Company: Callaway

Price: $$

Rating: 4.8/5

Here we have another wood from Callaway and this one is the Big Bertha V Series. Although this is a quality piece of equipment, I wouldn’t exactly put it on the same level as the one you just saw. The XR 16 can be used by the very best, where I would recommend the Big Bertha for beginners and intermediates.

There’s a lot to like here, though, if you’re in that skill range. One aspect that you’re going to like is the High Launch Design. What this design does is increases the launch angle and this helps you get the ball into the air much easier – this is particularly essential for novices.

Some other benefits you’re going to like includes:

  • Different shaft and loft options means you get a lot of options and you can choose the one that’s best for you.
  • Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup helps you crush your shots as far as possible.
  • Speed Optimized Technology makes this product very fast and the head aerodynamic.
  • Comfortable grip and this club feels very good to have in your hands.

The great thing about the Big Bertha is its affordable and should fit into basically everyone’s budget. If you’re looking to save a few bucks without giving up anything in the performance department, this is a product that you should definitely think about.

Tour Edge Women’s Hot Launch 2

Company: Tour Edge

Price: $$$

Rating: 4.8/5

I already went over the Hot Launch 2 for men and now it’s time to look at the Hot Launch 2 for women. This is a fairway wood that basically works for everyone too. The only group I would say should look else where is the most skilled women golfers. If you live and breath golf you’ll probably want the M4 or the next fairway, the M2.

But if you’re someone that likes to get out there from time to time and just enjoy yourself, this is a club worth thinking about – it’ll help you do just that.

Some top features include:

  • 450SS hyper steel construction makes this product feel very crisp and it really helps you launch the ball.
  • Variable Face Thickness is another reason you get so much distance on your shots and it helps create a spring like effect when the face meets the ball.
  • Rear Sole weighting puts the center of gravity in the most ideal place and and makes this wood very forgiving.
  • Multiple options in terms of type of wood you can get and other customizable features.

This is another club that’s not cheap but not overly expensive either. Honestly, the last thing you want is a cheap fairway wood, though. That’ll just lead to poor shots and frustration. The Women’s Hot Launch will prevent that from happening without breaking the bank.

TaylorMade Women’s M2

Company: TaylorMade

Price: $$$$

Rating: 4.9/5

You’ve already seen the Taylormade M4 and now it’s time to take a look at the women’s M2. This fairway is basically on the same level in terms of performance but it’s the 2017 model. Why add the 2017 model on this lsit? Because it’s a little less expensive and is perfect for people looking to save a little cash.

One thing that you’re going to really like is how forgiving this product is. This club is one of the easiest to get the ball into the air too. So if you struggle in this department you’ll want to think about purchasing the M2.

Some other aspects that you’ll like includes:

  • 6 layer carbon composite crown lowers the center of gravity and this is why you get such easy launches with this fairway.
  • Externalized sound ribs improve the overall feel of this club.
  • Two tiered sole design allows you to play from all different positions and lies.
  • Advanced Speed Pockets limit the amount of backspin you get and this means you get further shots every time.
  • Inverted Cone Technology maximizes the sweet spot of this product and you’ll get accurate shots even if you don’t hit it perfectly.

You also get several different woods and loft angels too. So no matter what kind of club you want, you’ll be able to find one that suits your game perfectly. So if you’re looking for a high quality fairway wood to play at your absolute best this year, this one is definitely worth considering.

Cobra King Women’s F7

Company: Cobra King

Price: $$$

Rating: 4.8/5

The Cobra King Women’s F7 is one of my favorite woods for many reasons – mainly because it’s extremely adjustable and you can set it to your exact specifications. First off, you can control where the center of gravity is located, either in the back or front.

This allows you to get the exact trajectory you want with your shots. If you want a line drive with extra roll you’ll be able to get that and if you want a shot with more air, you’ll be able to get that too.

Some other awesome features include:

  • MyFly Smart Pad lets you adjust the loft of this product and you get 8 different lofts to choose from. This makes this club very versatile and you’ll be able to use it in more situations than ever before.
  • Nice spring effect when the ball meets the club face and this adds more distance to all your shots.
  • Baffler Dual Rail System creates a smoother interaction between the club and the grass.
  • High quality shaft and this improves the overall feel of this wood.

This is a fairway wood that every women should consider. It has so many options, basically any person will get a lot of use out of it. The price isn’t terrible either and I think you’ll really like what you get for the cost.

Fairway Woods For Seniors

TaylorMade Senior M4

Company: TaylorMade

Price: $$$$

Rating: 4.9/5

The TaylorMade Senior M4 is an awesome product and I’ve already included the version for men and women on this list. Just like those ones, the senior version is a fairway wood that skilled golfers will want to have in their golf bag.

One aspect that the M4 does well in is it’s very forgiving and you’ll get a nice accurate shot, even if you don’t hit it perfectly. A big part of this is the Speed Pocket and this feature also helps in the distance department because it improves ball speed.

Some other benefits you’ll like includes:

  • Geocoustic Technology makes this product extremely playable and you’ll be able to use this club no matter what lie you face.
  • Advanced sole gives this product the perfect weight possible and this ensures the overall feel is perfect.
  • The weight is evenly distributed though the entirety of the face and this means you get a very consistent shot at all times.
  • Very strong Ni-C0 300 steel face is ultra thin and is another reason you get more ball speed.
  • Inverted Cone Technology gives you even more forgiveness and more accuracy.
  • 5 Layer Carbon Crown lowers the center of gravity in this club and this makes it very easy to get the ball into the air.
  • Graphite shaft is very stable and this ensures that you can really crush your fairway shots.

As you can see there’s a lot to love with the M4. There is a catch, though, and that’s this product is pretty expensive. In fact, it’s one of the more expensive on this list. I believe this wood is worth every penny and if you want to play with the best you must consider.

Callaway GBB Senior

Company: Callaway

Price: $$$$

Rating: 4.9/5

Here we have another very high quality fairway wood made for seniors and the Callaway GBB can go toe to toe with the TaylorMade M4 – they both are products that people serious about golf will wan to own.

This is a fairway wood that can really help you out in the distance department. One reason for this is the Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup and this feature comes in handy if you’re lacking in distance. This is the kind of club that helps you hit the green on your second shot on par 5’s.

Some other aspects that you’ll appreciate includes:

  • Larger than average face size and this makes this product very forgiving. You’ll be able to get nice shots even if you don’t hit it squarely.
  • Warbird Soleplate allows you to play this club from an unlimited amount of lies.
  • Very comfortable grip improves the overall feel of the GBB in your hands and this leads to more consistent shots.
  • OptiFit Adjustability makes this club very versatile and you can adjust the loft. This ensures you can use this club in all kinds of situations.
  • Triaxial carbon crown lowers the center of gravity and this makes it easier to get the ball into the air.

If you’re looking for a budget friendly fairway wood you’re going to have to look else where, however – the GBB is pretty expensive. If you’re causal about golf and don’t take it too serious you won’t need to spend the cash necessary to purchase this club.

But if you golf as much as possible and are looking for any way to lower your score, this club can definitely work for you.

Tour Edge Hot Launch 2 Senior

Company: Tour Edge

Price: $$$

Rating: 4.8/5

The last two woods you’ve seen were made more for skilled golfers and anyone that lives and breaths golf. The Tour Edge Hot Launch for seniors is made for a different class of golfers (intermediate and beginners). That doesn’t mean this club is low quality or anything like that, it just doesn’t quite have the performance that advanced golfers look for.

But novices and people less serious won’t need top of the line performance. Actually, less skilled golfers may play worst with an advanced club – it’ll be more than they can handle.

So if your’e a little more casual, you’ll like the top features which includes:

  • 450SS hyper steel construction makes this club awesome to play with and improves the overall feel of this product.
  • Variable Face Thickness creates a trampoline effect when the Hot Launch 2 makes contact with the ball. This ensures you get good distance on your shots.
  • Rear Sole Weighting makes getting the ball in the air very easy. This is good for anyone that struggles in that department.
  • Designed to help with slices and helps keep your shot as straight as possible.

What’s really great is this product won’t break the bank and is one of the more affordable options on this list. If you’re looking to save a little cash without having to sacrifice too much performance, the Hot Launch 2 is a good option.

Cobra King Senior F7

Company: Cobra King

Price: $$$$

Rating: 4.8/5

Here we have another excellent fairway wood and this one is the Cobra King Senior F7. There’s a lot to like here and my favorite benefit is how versatile this product is.

The reason this wood is so versatile is you can adjust where the center of gravity is – either in the front or back. This means you get various launches and this means you can get the perfect shot every single time.

If that’s not enough you’ll like that this club comes with:

  • Forged 475 stainless steel increases ball speed and this improves how much distance you get on each shot.
  • MyFly Smartpad lets you adjust the loft and this means you can play with the F7 in many different occasions.
  • Baffler Dual Rail System makes sure the club doesn’t drag when it hit the grass.
  • A few different colors so you get the exact look that you want.

This is another club that’s a little pricey too. But it does get excellent reviews and if you want to see what other customers are saying about this product, click below:

Full Fairway Buying Guide

Know Your Clubs

Fairway “woods” are called that because they originally came from the wood of a persimmon tree, but composite materials are much more popular these days for increased distance and accuracy. Fairway woods are distinguishable from the other clubs in your bag due to their longer shafts to increase power on your swing, but with a smaller head than a standard driver to allow for hitting off the ground.

Typically a golfer will have three clubs from inside the wood “family” – two fairway woods and a driver. The most popular are the 3- and 5-woods; the numbers represent the varying degrees of loft.

Since a standard iron set does not normally include the 2-4 irons (and many players don’t like to hit them anyway), the fairway woods offer the same degree of loft with an easier ability to make solid contact.

A 4-wood has the same loft as a 2-iron, for example, a 5-wood replaces the 3-iron, a 7-wood replaces the 4-iron and so on. Though not popular, a 38-degree 11-wood is also an option, but those are usually reserved for players with exceptionally slow swing speeds.

Know Your Game

If you’re an inexperienced player, chances are you’ll be spending most of your time hitting from the rough (or from a completely different hole). If that’s the case, and you have a decent lie, it might be a good idea to reach for a fairway wood instead of a long iron, as the increased loft can help you get over trees that may be blocking your path.

Fairway woods are especially effective off the tee. While most people want to pull out an oversized driver and boom it down straight down the course, overswinging can cause the ball to either hook or slice dramatically. A fairway wood off the tee is more forgiving and, with the increased loft, can also be more accurate. Indeed, some players actually hit the ball just as far with the fairway wood than they do their driver.

If you’re someone who likes to go for it on those long par 5’s than a fairway wood is usually a better option than a long iron. Try to get it as long as you can off the tee and then use the fairway wood – almost as a second driver – to get it the rest of the way. With any luck, and a decent lie, you could make it in two. If this is your style, make sure you choose a fairway wood with a low-profile head to make it easier to lift the ball out of a tight lie.

Players who struggle with staying out of the rough but also prefer not to use irons may benefit from using a hybrid club, which is a type of fairway wood that offers a nice balance between the swing style of a long iron and the loft of a fairway wood. Toting a shorter shaft than fairway woods that allows you to punch out from problem areas and a larger sweet spot than irons that enables a more forgiving hit, hybrids a perfect substitute for any player who wants the advantages of a hybrid but wants to retain their normal swing pattern.

Know Your Club Construction

The first thing you will notice when selecting a fairway wood is the shaft. By far, the most common type on the market today is graphite, which is more flexible than steel and creates the loft that beginner to intermediate players need.

More experienced players will eventually turn to steel shafts, as their solid construction makes for a lower profile flight and more distance off the swing. If you’re hitting constantly from the rough, steel shafts can be a hindrance rather than an advantage.

Next, look at the head on the end of the shaft. Despite the standard construction of the shaft, players generally have a wider selection as to the composition of the head. Steel is one of the more common since it is relatively inexpensive and can easily be fashioned into a smaller head than a driver.

Titanium is another option, although it’s expensive price point makes it out of reach for most casual players. Still, a titanium clubhead has a larger sweet spot on the face of the club that creates a more forgiving swing. Alternatively, some clubmakers are turning to a composite material in their heads, such as carbon fiber and tungsten, but the adoption of these clubs by mainstream golfers is still in its infancy.

Finally, look at the loft on the club face. An “open” clubface is when the angle tilts away from the ball and decreases loft, while a “closed” clubface turns the head more inward towards the ball and increases loft. Some manufacturers allow the player to change the clubface from open to closed – and everything in between – by simply unscrewing the hosel in the shaft and rotating the head.

This quality is more commonly found in drivers, but fairway woods are more and more allowing this type of customization as well. By the same token, some manufacturers also place movable weights inside the clubface that you can move to customize the club to your swing, but this can only be done by a trained professional who specializes in club-fitting.

FAQ’S About Fairway Woods

1) Question: When is the best time to use a fairway?

Answer: You want to use your fairway at times when you’re out of range with your irons. So if you’re looking to stick the green or get close to the green but don’t have an iron you can shoot that far, this is the time you’ll want to use your fairway.

I know some people that like to drive with them if the green is too far for an iron but too short for a driver. If you plan on doing this, make sure you don’t tee up the ball too high if use a tee. The ball shouldn’t be teed up like a driver.

2) Question: How should I hit this club?

Answer: You really want to use the same principles as you would with any other clubs but with a few minor differences with a fairway wood. Keep your head down at all times, keep your left arm straight if you’re right handed and keep your eyes on the ball the entire time.

One thing you’ll want to do is keep the ball slightly forward and towards your front foot. Also, you don’t want to make a huge divot when swinging and want to make solid contact with the ball.

3) Question: How often should I use my fairway?

Answer: Again, it really depends on the situation but this is one of the least used clubs in your arsenal. You use a fairway wood when you’re really going for it and want an eagle on a par 5 or any situation like that.

4) Question: Is it advisable to use your fairway in the rough?

Answer: I personally wouldn’t do it unless you have a perfect lie – maybe your ball is sitting on top of a mound of grass and you have a perfect shot at it. With a fairway you want to hit the ball solidly and tall, thick rough will impede that. It’s best to go with an iron in this case.

5) Question: How much do fairway woods cost?

Answer: It really depends on the quality you get. If you go back to the list there’s products that cost up to $300 and you’ll find them as low as $50 or $60. I honestly wouldn’t go too much lower than $50, though. If you do you might get a poorly made club and that’ll lead to lackluster shots.

If you’re investing in a fairway wood it’s because you’re trying to be more aggressive and lower your score. Do you think you’ll get that with a cheap club? Definitely not.

So I think it’s better to not buy a fairway at all if you’re not going to invest at least $50 and I would try to go into the $100 or more range if you can.

6) Question: Is a fairway wood absolutely necessary?

Answer: If you’re new to golf it probably isn’t. This club is for golfers consciously trying to lower their scores by sticking the green on their second shots. Somebody just starting out isn’t even thinking this way.

But If you’re looking for a new edge and play on courses with long par 5’s and long par 4’s, it becomes more and more necessary. I do think you can survive without one, though.

7): Question: What kind of materials are used when making a fairway wood?

Answer: There’s basically three kinds of materials that make up these clubs. There’s pros and cons for each and they are:

  • Steel: Steel is a common material for the head of a fairway club to be made up of. Steel is inexpensive to make and is very forgiving. Your shot can still be straight even if you don’t hit it perfectly.
  • Titanium: Titanium is a bit more expensive to use than steel so these clubs tend to cost a little extra money. Titanium heads tend to be a little larger and the center of gravity is usually lower. This makes the club ultra forgiving.
  • Composite: Composite is the least popular of the three and tends to be heaviest. I personally would go with steel or titanium.

8) Question: What are the top brands for fairway woods?

Answer: Any top golf brand will make a good fairway wood. You have brands like Callaway, TaylorMade, Titleist, and more. There’s even a few brands that didn’t make this list but are still quality. Basically if a brand makes a nice set of clubs or irons you can bet they make a decent fairway too.

Play With The Best Year!

Golf is a game that relies on precision, concentration and quality clubs. Have a well made fairway wood and you’ll love the shots you get and the lowest scoring rounds possible – get a poor quality fairway and you might get the urge to toss your club into the nearest water hazard.

No matter your needs or budget, you’ll find something on this list for you.

If you have any questions you can comment below and I’ll make sure to respond as quickly as possible. You can search around the golf section up top for more tips and gear reviews.

Are you excited to play with your new fairway wood?
